10 Movie Adaptations That Should Have Been TV Shows
8. The Divergent Series
Despite not being the apex of the genre, Veronica Roth’s dystopian books were all fun reads – especially book one. The adaptations, on the other hand, did not translate well to the big screen.
The main issue was that the world-building felt rushed in the movies. Specifically, there was very little detail given about the function of each of the five factions in the city, which in turn made the overall structure of the fictional society lack substance.
Such an issue was not helped by the overuse of CGI. Indeed, the city (later revealed to be a dystopian Chicago) looked unnaturally polished in the movie adaptation.
Had the series been made for television, however, a smaller budget would have forced those tasked with making the adaptation to shoot in real locations, giving Roth’s world a greater degree of authenticity.
The pacing of a television show would have also allowed for more detailed world-building, making the overall setting much more realistic.
