10 Movie Adaptations That Should Have Been TV Shows
5. The Hobbit
The Hobbit may seem an odd choice given that the biggest criticism of the film franchise was that it was much longer than it needed to be. Granted, The Hobbit would never work as a lengthy television show with a multitude of seasons.
It would work brilliantly, however, as a miniseries. J.R.R. Tolkien’s children’s classic is much quainter and cosier than The Lord of the Rings, and as such, it would translate smoothly onto the small screen.
The problem with Peter Jackson’s trilogy was that it tried too hard to be like The Lord of the Rings. Had the book been adapted into a miniseries, those involved would have been forced to tone down the scale due to a smaller budget. This in turn would have meant less CGI and fewer over-bloated battle sequences, which were both huge missteps in Jackson’s trilogy.
With a tight screenplay and some fresh acting talent, The Hobbit would make for a wonderful miniseries in the future.
