10 Movie Adaptations That Should Have Been TV Shows

4. The Girl On The Train

Paula Hawkins’ page-turning thriller was a massive hit when it was released back in 2015. In fact, it was so successful that the adaptation came out only a year later. Despite a fantastic performance from Emily Blunt, the film did not come close to achieving what the novel did.

The main issue was that it was largely devoid of suspense as there were far too many flashback sequences. Granted, there were plenty of flashbacks in the book as well, but the slower pace of the novel meant that said flashbacks didn’t feel intrusive. By contrast, the addition of so many flashbacks in the film felt clunky and disconcerting.

Given that the book isn’t particularly long, a televised version of The Girl on the Train wouldn’t need to be more than one season. Provided the script was up to scratch, such a version of the story would be able to carry through the mounting suspense of the novel more effectively.
