5. The Bride
This one should be pretty self-explanatory. The Bride is a badass fighter, but given the lack of supernatural elements in her tale, there's no way she should have been able to fend off The Crazy 88, given that, well, there are 88 of them. Kill Bill Volume 1's climactic fight scene adheres to the classic cinematic principle that if the protagonist is fighting a legion of enemies, they will attack her only in small groups or even one at a time, in order for it to somehow see more plausible that this is a fight she could win. In reality, it looks dumb, though Tarantino is obviously affecting the cliche with a wink and a nod, rather than rooting this scene in any sort of reality. Still, in actual fact, this alone would have been enough to finish The Bride off; though many of these 88 are evidently adolescent boys who have never held a sword before ("Go home to your mother!"), the 88 just needed to close in on her location, hold her down and cut her head off. Done, easy.
