10 Movie Bands We Really Wish Were Real
3. School Of Rock - School Of Rock (2003)
While fictional band Sonic Death Monkey from cult rom-com classic High Fidelity could have featured on this spot, it’s real-life musician, actor, and comedian Jack Black’s other non-existent band that wins out here. And that band is of course School Of Rock from the film of the same name.
When burnout musician Dewey Finn (Black) is kicked-out of his band he impersonates his roommate to get a job as a substitute teacher at a prestigious school. Though he’s initially reluctant to do any kind of teaching, Finn decides to form a new band with the pupils after hearing them in their music class.
Comprised of a group of phenomenally talented youngsters and the outrageously charismatic Black, the band explodes with bombastic energy. Everybody who’s had the pleasure of watching this flick will doubtless find it impossible not to sing along to “Step Off”, “Legend Of The Rent”, or their rendition of AC/DC’s “It’s A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘N’ Roll)”.
But it’s the joyous title track (penned by The Mooney Suzuki's Sammy James Jr alongside screenwriter Mike White) that seals the deal for School Of Rock’s place on this list.
