10 Movie Bands We Really Wish Were Real
4. Llewyn Davis - Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)
Another fictional musical act to spring from the collective mind of the Coen brothers, the eponymous folk singer of Inside Llewyn Davis is more than deserving of a spot on this list.
Portrayed by Oscar Isaac in his breakthrough role, the two-time Oscar-nominated feature follows a week in the life of the titular musician who, after the death of his former partner, struggles to get his career back off the ground whilst trying to keep his own life from falling apart. But no matter which hopeful opportunity he chases, Davis faces rejection everywhere he turns.
And herein lies the tragedy of Davis’s story: he’s a phenomenal musician who can’t catch a break. Isaac (who plays and sings in the film) pours every ounce of feeling he has into each note that he sings. It’s through his music where Davis is truly able to express himself. All of his pain and hope drips from every word, and this is what makes him such a great songwriter and artist.
It’s impossible to hear Isaac’s renditions of “Fare Thee Well” or “Hang Me, Oh Hang Me” without feeling something. That’s the power of music for you.
