10 Movie Biopics That Desperately Need To Happen

8. Heath Ledger

Fantasy Casting: Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Heath Ledger will forever be remembered for his role as the Joker, but don’t forget he also carried A Knight’s Tale and was magnificent in Brokeback Mountain.

Multiple actors had already turned the feature down, not wanting to star as a gay character in such a huge movie, but Ledger (along with Jake Gyllenhaal) was willing to take the plunge; it’s this side of Ledger the biopic should focus on.

In a way, Joker has cannibalised his legacy. The method acting, mad ravings found in his diary, drug overdose and once in a generation performance have overshadowed Heath Ledger as a person. He was warm, affable, generous to his fans and didn’t take himself too seriously.

He did, however, have a turbulent relationship with both his girlfriend Michelle Williams and the Australian press; both of which were subsequently blamed upon his drug problems.

Ledger and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were good friends, having worked together in 10 Things I Hate About You. Apart from Ledger’s typically bigger frame, the two would pass for brothers too, maybe even twins.

Whether it would be too painful to portray a close friend is one thing, but Gordon-Levitt would certainly do the performance justice.
