10 Movie Biopics That Desperately Need To Happen
5. Steve Irwin
Fantasy Casting: Owen Wilson
Steve Irwin’s main aim was to educate people about Australia’s amazing wildlife, and help boost conservation of his homelands amazing creatures. His legacy certainly lives on through his daughter Bindi, who’s taken up the mantle for herself, but a family feature could reach a whole new generation.
He was, however, criticised for frequently allowing his young children around wild animals, and for his narrow views of conservation. Many thought his aims were linked towards tourism, and that he oversimplified many issues.
Still, his distinctive accent, outfit, ‘crikey!’ catchphrase and enthusiasm helped him reach a global audience of 500 million at his peak.
A tragically ironic death at the hands of a stingray only goes to solidify how committed he was to his job, and how dangerous the creatures he dealt with were.
A Steve Irwin biopic isn’t going to be as gritty as some of the others here, so a family friendly face like Owen Wilson is perfect. He’s a great actor when he turns it on, but effortlessly easy going and charming, like like Irwin himself. Both put a smile on your face, and that’s why he’s an ideal candidate.
