10 Movie Cameos That Left Us All Speechless
5. Samuel L. Jackson & The Rock - The Other Guys
Adam McKay's buddy cop comedy The Other Guys didn't try to bamboozle audiences with a surprise cameo from Samuel L. Jackson and The Rock, given that they were actually featured extensively in the movie's marketing, suggesting they had a beefy supporting part.
But in reality the pair - who play an impossibly cool, seemingly indestructible cop duo - appear for an "extended cameo" in the film's first few scenes, culminating in a gut-bustingly shocking punchline surely nobody saw coming.
As hotshot Detectives Highsmith and Danson, they pursue some criminals in the early going, and after watching the assailants make a speedy zipline exit to their waiting escape car, decide to take a shortcut to the ground by leaping off the roof and "aiming for the bushes." There are no bushes.
As Highsmith and Danson slowly fall to the ground, ingeniously scored to the Foo Fighters' "My Hero", we wait and wait to see how they're going to escape this seemingly fatal situation...only to abruptly die as they land on the pavement.
Great comedy is all about defying expectations, and having two of Hollywood's most badass action stars send themselves up so enthusiastically sure as hell did it.
