10 Movie Cameos That Were Total Accidents
5. Jurassic World - Colin Trevorrow
Compared to its sequels, particularly the recent Dominion, the first Jurassic World film had relatively few connections to the classic Jurassic Park trilogy. It was a continuation but it wasn’t stuffed to the gills with cameos or returning stars. One character that did carry over from the classic films however was Mr DNA: the animated strand of cells that explained how the newly revived dinosaurs came to be.
In the original movie, Mr DNA was portrayed by legendary voice actor Greg Burson who sadly passed away in 2008. The classic mascot has a brief cameo in Jurassic World and has a new actor portraying his voice.
Trevorrow said of his appearance that it “actually happened by mistake”. He tracked the character’s only two lines in a single take in a sound booth on a whim. Perhaps implying that the intention was to replace them later, but the team never did.
It’s not uncommon for crew to use themselves as stand-ins for voice roles but it’s much less likely that their single take winds up making the final cut. Seeing his chance to star in the piece, Trevorrow and colleagues decided to just go with it.
