10 Movie Cameos That Were Total Accidents

6. Ghostbusters - Ron Jeremy

Ghostbusters Ron Jeremy
Columbia Pictures

Quite rightfully regarded as one of the best movies of all time, Ghostbusters is a hybrid sci-fi adventure comedy with a cast so strong it couldn’t lose. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis… and Ron Jeremy.

If you don’t know who Ron Jeremy is, let's just say his style of entertainment is not blockbuster silver screen stuff. In 1984 you were likely to find his work in seedy video rental stores away from the public eye. And yes, he makes a surprise and easily missed appearance in this classic movie.

The catalyst for the film’s third act sees the Ghostbusters’ headquarters being torn apart by extreme paranormal turbulence. As the retired firehouse explodes, crowds of onlookers gather to witness the destruction. For a moment, a trademark moustache can be seen amongst a group of shocked New York citizens.

How exactly this came to be is unknown. Was Jeremy a paid extra, or just happened to wander on set when he was in downtown NYC? And out of all the movies he happened to have found himself coming across it was Ghostbusters? Seems all too convenient a set-up for a “bustin’ makes me feel good” joke…
