Once you wade through the excessive amount of bare feet and knowing nods to the last flickers of the golden age of Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood becomes a rather riveting tale of two friends trying to find their place in a dying world.

Setting the tone for this leading friendship from almost the very first moment we witness the two occupying a space together - not counting the opening pre-recorded Bounty Law interview involving the pair - Brad Pitt's Cliff Booth responds to Marvin Schwarz's (Al Pacino) claim that he "sounds like a good friend" with an aptly understated "I try".

Fast forward through a story that sees Booth constantly driving around his buddy, due to him having his license suspended, travelling with him to Italy to shoot some Spaghetti Westerns, and even saving his life after Rick Dalton's home is invaded by the Manson Family, and the stuntman rounds off his appearance in the movie with a similar exchange.

Whilst sat in the back of an ambulance after being stabbed in the thigh mid-battle against the invaders, Dalton reminds Booth that he is "a good friend" to which he responds with yet another aptly understated "I try". Yes, he bloody does.
