A lot of exceptional work went into crafting Willem Dafoe's iconic turn as Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin in Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man feature in 2002. Yet, with the actor's masterful performance as the increasingly psychotic arch-nemesis of the wall-crawler and the stunning appearance of the green-suited menace stealing our attention for the majority of his time on screen, it's easy to overlook some of the finer details that went into creating this particular version of Osborn.

One often missed nuance in the visual appearance of the Oscorp owner actually informs a huge part of the character's inner turmoil. Early on we see Osborn flaunting a set of perfect white teeth as he meets Peter Parker for the first time. However, as the Goblin serum begins to take hold of him, we watch as Osborn converses with his darker side in a mirror - a part of his personality lacking the picturesque set of gnashers Osborn has clearly invested in over time.

It's a minuscule visual difference, but once you clock the switch, it becomes even clearer that the serum is tapping into a primitive part of Osborn that has been buried underneath the superficial world he's built for himself.
