9. The Little Girl From The Opening - Jurassic Park: The Lost World
Jurrasic Park's first sequel set the tone of being a much darker entry in the franchise straight from its opening scene.
On the shores of the tropical Isla Nuba, a wealthy family sets up for lunch whilst their young daughter wanders off along the beach, stumbling upon a pack of Compsognathus.
As the little girl soon learns, dinosaurs are not the best animals to try playing with.
The girl's screams attract the attention of her parents. The camera zooms in for a close-up of the mother as she runs to her daughter, but she stops short, her face twisting into a scream of horror before the film cuts away.
That is the last we see or hear of them for the rest of the theatrical cut.
A scene that was added to some television adaptions of the film did finally make its way to DVD and revealed whether or not the little girl survived.
She did, but from the reactions of some shocked InGen board members who were viewing the photos her parents had sent to them along with a very big lawsuit, she got lucky.
