6. Tank - The Matrix Reloaded

By virtue of him being the operator of the Nebuchadnezzar and being one of the only crew members to survive Cypher's betrayal, you would have though that Tank would have been a key part in the entire Matrix franchise. But then after his first appearance he simply disappeared.

Why He Was Written Out

Money again. There had been talks between Warner Bros and actor Marcus Chong about Tank returning for the sequels, but his contract demands proved a stumbling block and he was instead written out. Chong subsequently filed a lawsuit against the studio in May 2003, claiming they were in breach of contract and a verbal agreement that he'd be in both sequels.

Sadly for him, it did nothing to reinstate him.

How He Was Written Out

Having survived Cypher's attack on the Nebuchadnezzar (somehow), Tank mysteriously dies before The Matrix Reloaded comes around. His sister Zee mentions his fate in passing, saying she lost two brothers to the Nebuchadnezzar, implying that Tank had been killed. Perhaps because of those injuries at Cypher's hand.
