10 Movie Characters Cut From Sequels (In The Worst Way)
4. Adam Yates - Hot Tub Time Machine 2
While there's obviously a bit of an ensemble cast in the first Hot Tub Time Machine, John Cusack is clearly the lead and it's his story that the film focuses on primarily. Flash forward to the sequel, though and he was (mostly) nowhere to be seen.
Why He Was Written Out
There are two main schools of thought here. The first - as pushed by Rob Corddry in an interview with All Access Pass with Billy Kidd - stated that Cusack was too serious of an actor and the films simply weren’t “his cup of tea”. On the other side, Cusack himself tweeted that he just hadn’t been asked back. That might explain how the Unrated version actually has a cameo by him as Lou's killer at the end, which he wouldn't be likely to do if it wasn't his cup of tea.
How He Was Written Out
Paramount just went with a boring excuse this time, stating that Cusack's Adam had written a best-selling book and was on a trip of self-discovery, which didn't at all feel convincing nor true of the character.
