10 Movie Characters That Got Happy Endings They Did Not Deserve

6. P.T. Barnum - The Greatest Showman

Whiplash JK Simmons
Fox

There is something of a recurring theme on this list of characters treating others like something they've found on the bottom of their shoe, while those characters are only ever good and loving back to them. No, the point of being good is not only for it to be reciprocated, but there is a limit!

The Greatest Showman told the embellished story of P.T. Barnum's (Hugh Jackman) circus and his rise to fame, and it's fair to say that he didn't come out the other side smelling of roses.

Throughout the film, he used and degraded those he put in his show, he thought himself better than them and tried to leave them behind as he instead attached himself to Jenny Lind (Rebecca Ferguson), and he all but cheated on his loving wife with her. Pretty soon, he was left with absolutely nothing, and apparently just because he was sad about it, everyone forgave him for the horrible things he said and did.

Though he was happy to abandon his team at their best, they were far too good to him, and weren't willing to abandon him at his worst. Then, like Harry from Love Actually, he still got to enjoy watching his kids grow up next to a woman who he did not deserve, and who had every right to leave him where he would have left her without hesitation.
