10 Movie Characters That Got Happy Endings They Did Not Deserve
Not everyone deserves their happy ever after.

Everyone loves a happy ending, at least that's how the saying goes. But that's only partly true, right? That happy ending surely has to happen to the right character. No one was hoping Hans Gruber bested John McClane in Die Hard, or that the Emperor would actually not have been killed by Darth Vader and was in fact just biding his time for as dramatic a return as possible (that one still hurts even now).
No, with few exceptions, audiences want to see good triumph over evil, and for the protagonist to ride off into the sunset with the worst behind them and just sunshine and rainbows ahead.
However, it would be naïve to think that this only ever happened to the good guys, even in the movies. Cheaters prospered, the unforgivable was forgiven, and murderers walked away without so much as a slap on the wrist.
There's another saying, this one from John Lennon - it will all be okay in the end, and if it's not okay then it's not the end. Except this was the end for these ten characters, and we are definitely not okay with it.
10. Harry - Love Actually

Love Actually might be a universally beloved, critically acclaimed Christmas movie, but next to some of the sweet story endings, there are some that are just weird. Aside from Andrew Lincoln's Mark professing his love for his best friend's wife and people thinking it's cute, there was Harry's story.
Harry, played by Alan Rickman, had a loving wife and loving children, and yet still found himself besotted with his secretary at work. There was flirting at first, and then he went out to buy her a very expensive necklace, while he bought his wife Karen a CD for Christmas.
Arguably the worst part of it isn't the cheating, and it isn't even the fact that Karen found out, in spite of the incredible performance by Emma Thompson. The worst part is that Harry faced absolutely no consequences.
Karen, putting her family first, though she was being made a fool of and though she knew that her life would always be a little worse for knowing what he did, stayed. You can see the pain in her face as she picked him up from the airport, when in reality he didn't even come close to deserving her.
