10 Movie Characters We'd Share a Desert Island With

4. Holly Golightly - Breakfast at Tiffany's

Every group could do well to have a princess on board; the one member of the group who is just that little more decadent and sensitive than the others. By having a princess among them the members will undoubtedly adhere to an €˜older sibling€™ role. A role which would ender Miss Golightly to the mature members of the group. Aside from her decadence she€™s also fun-loving and a little mad. She has a cat called €˜Cat€™ because she doesn€™t feel like she can own something living and, therefore, isn€™t owned herself! As far as a little adventure on a desert island is concerned she€™s unlikely to lead from the fore, but while you€™re trekking inland she€™s likely to make the camp a lot more bearable! From the beginning of the film she€™s seen to go to great lengths to achieve all that€™s aesthetically pleasing, something that isn€™t likely to come from Indy or Ripley, and she endeavours for the €˜finer things€™ in life. She also loves a party. This is definitely one of the things we know best about her from the opening scene of the movie. At dawn, resplendently bedizened, she delves into a paper bag only to pull out a pastry and coffee as she leers into the window of Tiffany€™s jewellery store. Before being accosted at her front door, it€™s clear from the time of day, her €˜night before€™ attire and her choice of breakfast that she€™s coming back from an all-nighter. Who couldn€™t love a woman like that? Although she€™s seen to be the height of refinement in modern society, in the film she€™s also got a tougher side. She€™s essentially broke and always looking to better her situation. A €˜riches to rags€™ €˜Jane on Tarzan€™s Island€™ storyline would be inevitable from her being on the island and, let€™s face it, having a princess come down and learn how to rough it out is always a winning story.

A. J. S. Scott was created as a homunculus by a mad English Alchemist who was trying to make rum from ink and seawater. He is still a fan of both and he has no comment on what happened to all the ‘No Exit’ signs in Islington Underground Station when he visited for Beltaine. You can send him missives by bribing the Right Raven with sour-strings, or: Instagram: @ajsscott Tumblr: andrew-scott-things.tumblr.com
