10 Movie Characters Who Actually Knew When To Quit

8. Sven - The Running Man

Psylocke X Men
TriStar Pictures

In the classic Arnold Schwarzenegger action vehicle The Running Man, the villainous host of the deadly titular game, Damon Killian (Richard Dawson), has a hefty bodyguard, Sven (Sven Thorsen), to do his bidding.

In the third act, when contestant Ben Richards (Schwarzenegger) starts winning over the audience, Killian throws a fit in the control room and takes it out on Sven, making a crack about steroids turning him deaf.

This putdown comes back to bite Killian in the ass in the most ultimate way at the very end of the film, though, when Richards manages to fight his way to Killian for a final confrontation.

At this point, Killian motions to Sven, believing that Sven will step in and save him, but Sven has other ideas, hilariously telling his boss, "I've got to score some steroids," before giving Richards a knowing look and promptly walking off.

This leaves Killian defenseless as he's manhandled by Richards, who straps him into a transportation bobsled and fires it straight into one of his own billboards, killing him in a glorious fireball.

Sven was a rare '80s action movie henchman to know the most ultimate truth: if Arnold's coming, you better start running.
