10 Movie Characters Who Aren't What You Think
4. Aldrich Killian ISN'T The Real Mandarin - Iron Man 3
Iron Man 3 proved hugely divisive with comic book fans for revealing that Ben Kingsley's "Mandarin" was actually just a paid stooge, an actor called Trevor Slattery hired to take the heat away from the "real" Mandarin, Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce).
Many were left unsatisfied by the generic Killian serving as the re-imagined Mandarin, dashing their hopes for a source-accurate rendition of the character (minus all the racism and stereotypes, of course).
And if you haven't been hoovering up every last piece of Marvel media and news, that seemed like the end of the story.
Except, of course, that the Marvel One-Shot short All Hail the King basically retconned Iron Man 3's ending, confirming that there's another, totally 100% real Mandarin out there somewhere.
Furthermore, the character is set to appear in the upcoming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, with the brilliant Tony Leung cast to play a more traditional rendition of The Mandarin.
Not only should it finally give fans the portrayal of the supervillain they've been craving, but it'll make Iron Man 3 less infuriating in retrospect.
