10 Movie Characters Who Became Total Caricatures In Sequels

7. Jack Sparrow

Freddy Krueger
Disney

The Pirates Of The Caribbean films have not aged well for a variety of reasons, a lot of which are not very fun to talk about. But the original film still very much holds up, thanks to its fun but still creepy atmosphere, its impressive choreography, and of course, Jack Sparrow.

The original Pirates trilogy, for all their faults, were still very good at demystifying the idea of pirates, while still getting to indulge in how cool they were. Jack Sparrow is equal parts a joke, but also a cunning and dangerous outlaw.

However, as the films went on past the original trilogy, Sparrow became even more of a joke character. Mostly because neither the movies, nor Johnny Depp (who in the latest movie had to be fed his lines via earpiece) really knew what to do with Jack after the third film concluded. Davey Jones is defeated, he has the Black Pearl back, there's no reason for him to be involved anymore.

For further proof of this, look no further than the reboot of the series Disney is doing. WITHOUT Jack Sparrow.
