There have been plenty of cinematic universes that haven't quite taken off as well as they would have liked, but the MonsterVerse is not one of them. Starting with Godzilla back in 2014, and subsequently introducing Kong three years later, the world built around the two Titans has been incredibly successful.

After a fun build-up, who didn't want to see the titular monsters come together and fight when Godzilla vs. Kong released in 2021? One person who was desperate to avoid it was Ilene Andrews, Rebecca Hall's character, who was essentially in charge of looking after Kong.

He was kept on Skull Island, holed up in isolation and safe. When he breached the dome above his home, there were suggestions of moving him from Skull Island, but Andrews expressly forbade it. She knew that as soon as Kong was out in the world, Godzilla would come for him, and it would be a death sentence.

The rule was broken, though, when Dr. Lind (Alexander SkarsgÄrd) came to Andrews with a theory of getting into Hollow Earth and needing Kong to lead them there. Yes, it took some convincing, but she ultimately allowed Kong to leave despite the strict rules she put in place around him. Of course, it wasn't a death sentence, and the two ultimately grew to be closer to allies more than anything else.
