4. Sheriff John T. Chance in Rio Bravo
If you've read my other reviews, you might have noticed that I mention this movie a lot. It's got some great acting and a great story. Legendary director Howard Hawks was at its helm, and it has an amazing gunfight in the end where the protagonists throw dynamite in the air and shoot at it. But few reasons make this film essential viewing like the unequaled John Wayne. He's cool, he's rugged. He's a true bad-ass. But in Rio Bravo, the young Angie Dickinson immediately falls for him, despite the fact that her character Feathers is possibly the most adorably cute and spunky girl to ever show up in a movie. That and she's 24 years younger than him. If you haven't seen it, pay close attention because Skyfall pays homage to this flick when Eve visits Bond in his hotel room.
