10 Movie Characters Who Just Needed To Listen To Reason

1. President Orlean - Don't Look Up

Adam McKay's Don't Look Up arguably became one of the most divisive movies of the year when it was released in 2021. As something of a political satire, the entire point of the story revolved around those in positions of power almost purposefully not listening to reason.

When Leonardo DiCaprio's Professor Mindy and Jennifer Lawrence's Kate Dibiasky took to the White House with the news of an impending comet with the potential to bring about a global extinction, they couldn't have been taken less seriously. Exactly the same thing happened when they looked to leak the news through a morning talk show TV appearance.

While certainly exaggerations, the narrative satirised warped views and priorities of both politicians and the media, as the comet was completely belittled by President Orlean (Meryl Streep) who only took an interest when she saw a way to exploit it for personal gain, while chat show hosts Jack Bremmer (Tyler Perry) and Brie Evantee (Cate Blanchett) did nothing but joke and make light of the situation.

Ultimately, it was the President who could have done something about the devastating catastrophe coming, but ignored experts like Mindy and Dibiasky in favour of her own personal yes men, and was punished for it when almost every person on the planet was killed.
