10 Movie Characters Who Look Nothing Like Their Comic-Book Versions

7. Apocalypse - X-Men: Apocalypse

X-Men fans waited years to see Apocalypse do battle on the big-screen, but when it finally did happen, the character didn't look anything like the monstrous, muscular, Bane-like brute that's found on the page.

Instead, the movie version was the size of a regular human, and so lacked the imposing presence of his source material counterpart. The movie also changed the character's colour, opting for a bluey-purple hue instead of Apocalypse's traditionally greyish skin.

As a result, the Apocalypse of the movie was a fairly drab and uninteresting villain that could definitely destroy a building or two but never really posed much of a direct threat to the X-Men.

The character's comic-book design would've made him far more menacing; after all, a hulking, physically powerful force of nature feels much more threatening than an adult Smurf in a plastic-looking jumpsuit.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
