10 Movie Characters Who Look Nothing Like Their Comic-Book Versions

5. Helmut Zemo - Captain America: Civil War

The fact that Captain America: Civil War's Zemo looked radically different from his comic-book counterpart is an example of a great change being made for all the right reasons.

If the character's look had been directly translated from page to screen it would've looked wildly out of place, and the idea that movie-Zemo should be a man with no powers, no grand, destructive plan and no supervillain outfit was a refreshing one.

In the comics, Zemo's face was horribly scarred when he fell into a vat of chemicals, a grisly sight that's masked by his signature purple suit.

Not only does the movie do away with that look, it completely ignores Zemo's traditional origin story, too. The two versions of the character share nothing besides a name, but as we mentioned above, all these changes were warranted in helping the character mesh with the world of the movie.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
