10 Movie Characters Who Look Nothing Like Their Comic-Book Versions

4. The Ancient One - Doctor Strange

The casting of Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One in 2016's Doctor Strange drew a lot of negative press for one primary reason; the whitewashing of a character that's traditionally Asian.

But there's nothing wrong with switching things up for movies so a lot of that hate was not warranted, and since Swinton was fantastic in the role, it's hard to argue that the choice to cast her was the wrong one.

Ethnicity wasn't the only change The Ancient One went through on his way from script to screen, either; on top of his gender switch, the character also had quite a bit of work done in the clothing department.

Swinton's version of the character never gets a multi-coloured outfit, with the closest comparison being the yellow robes the character wears in two main scenes; the opening fight, and a scene later in the movie where she's killed by Kaecilius.

Swinton also never gets to wear a headpiece, and is instead left with a simple hood.

Overall, it's a much more minimalist design, but a bit more colour wouldn't necessarily have looked out of place considering the crazy, flamboyant look of the movie's alternate dimensions.
