9. Loki - The Avengers

Between his banishment at the end of the first Thor movie for betraying Asgard and his reappearance working with Thanos and The Other at the start of The Avengers, it's clear that Loki has Seen Some Stuff, in very definite terms.

He effectively goes through hell lost in the outer regions of the Nine Realms before somehow finding his way to his alliance with MCU's big bad and it's very obvious that he's been hardened by the experience. Where he was once a skilled but apparently reluctant warrior - like Scar to Thor's Mufasa to borrow two other brothers - he arrives on Earth in The Avengers as a fully-fledged badass, killing SHIELD operatives, enslaving Hawkeye and basically in a more recognisably rounded villain role.

His reinvention - which actually doesn't really last aside with quite as much edge - is very much as a more action-oriented Loki and narratively it makes a lot of sense, helping to really double-down on his impact.
