10 Movie Characters Who Returned Way More Badass In Sequels
3. Doc Brown - Back To The Future III
Back To The Future's whole narrative is sort of fundamentally tied to the idea of characters improving (or seeing their fortunes crumble) thanks to meddling with the timeline. Marty McFly's entire family pretty much gets a fortuitous uplift thanks to Doc Brown ignoring his own warnings about meddling with time, after all.
But Brown himself also undergoes a change between the two Back To The Future sequels that has nothing to do with someone altering his past. He goes from being your typical zany scientist type in the first two movies whose involvement in any sort of action is mostly out of necessity or desperation to something entirely more badass in the third film.
When Marty gets back to 1885, he finds Brown is now a rifle-toting blacksmith with a significantly cooler outfit and more of a swagger to his step. Perhaps it's all down to the fact that so much can kill you in the Old West and he's had to steel himself? Perhaps it's because he needed an injection of cool to be considered a viable romantic lead? Who knows the full cause.
