10 Movie Characters Who Ruined EVERYTHING

8. Evelyn Carnahan - The Mummy (1999)

28 Weeks Later Dumb
Universal

Much as we all love Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz) in The Mummy, there's no denying her maddeningly cavalier attitude when reading from The Book of the Dead.

Despite Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) warning her against it, Evelyn jokes that "no harm ever came from reading a book" and immediately starts reading from it, ignoring the very clear signs that this thing is absolutely cursed.

As Evelyn finishes reading the scripture within the book, she instantly awakens the mummified Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo), and gets a loud chewing-out from Dr. Chamberlain (Jonathan Hyde) as a result.

Considering that Imhotep promptly goes about slurping down the insides of anyone who dares cross his path, while embarking on a general rampage that includes unleashing the biblical Plagues of Egypt, it's safe to say that Evelyn has a lot to answer for.

The movie doesn't really hold her to much account at all, though, no matter that she's ultimately responsible for causing a whole ton of death.
