2. Phil Coulson - The Avengers

In The Avengers, when Loki was about to send Thor plummeting to the ground, Coulson arrived on the scene, armed with an experimental gun made from the Asgardian Destroyer Armour. Having threatened Loki with the gun, Coulson was tricked by his illusions and stabbed in the back with the Chitauri sceptre. But it was all unnecessary. The fall didn't kill Thor, Loki wasn't even hurt by the gun, the Chitauri would've come regardless and, in spite of Coulson's death being used to rally the Avengers, the team would have has to defend New York anyway. Think about it, Thor was only on Earth to combat Loki in the first place, Bruce Banner didn't even know Coulson had died but still made his way to New York, Tony Stark wouldn't sit back and watch his tower being used as Loki's base of operations and the others aren't the type to sit back and let people die at the hands of a villain they had just had trouble with. Whether Coulson had attempted to stop Loki or not, the same outcome to the film would have occurred (of course, he's alive again now anyway).
