5. Jonathan Kent - Man Of Steel

Arguably the most controversial scene in Man of Steel, Clark Kent's father Jonathan died in a viciously rip-roaring Kansas tornado while his son looked on. While the young Clark Kent could quite easily have saved him from his demise, Jonathan signalled for him to wait right where he was and let him die, as he didn't believe that Clark was ready for the world to know who he really was. While the scene was inarguably poignant and was foreshadowed by an earlier scene involving a school bus accident, the fact is that Clark could have saved his father and, in spite of Jonathan's good intentions, it was an unnecessary sacrifice. Clark could have disappeared to the back of the watching crowd and used his speed to whisk his father away to safety without them even seeing or, if his speed hadn't manifested at this point, he could have just charged in at normal speed and used his strength to pull his father away. Granted, people would have thought it was a superhuman feat, but people have done amazing and seemingly impossible things in life-threatening situations in the real world for years and nobody has ever accused them of being a super-powered alien.
