10 Movie Characters Who Should Never Have Died
7. Hicks - Alien 3
James Cameron's classic blockbuster Aliens introduced the character of Corporal Dwayne Hicks, a macho-man space marine who accompanies Ellen Ripley and co.'s expedition to LV-426. His bravery, strategic thinking and believable chemistry with Ripley made him an instant fan favourite and he ended Aliens as one of the few survivors from the encounter with the Alien Queen.
Ending the series' second film heavily wounded and being put into cryosleep in preparation for a return to Earth, Hicks, Newt, Ripley and Bishop kick off the controversial title that is Alien 3 after a facehugger latches onto the main girl from the first two films and begins crashing their ship.
Each of the heroes from the previous film have their cryochambers ejected into space and begin hurtling towards the planet below. Hicks is later shown to have died in his pod, having crashed onto the planet's surface and been impaled and crushed by a support beam.
Given the mess that most of Alien 3 turned out to be, Hicks' quick and largely offscreen death becomes even more of a waste of a brilliant character, and that little bit more insulting to the fans of the series.
