10 Movie Characters Who Should've Died (But Didn't)

1. John McClane

The Dark Knight Rises Christian Bale
Die Hard

At this stage, who would weep for John McClane? His reputation long since left in tatters by Bruce Willis's last two outings in character, McClane is no longer the action movie star he once was. Better for us all that McClane had gone out on a high - if not at the tail-end of the original trilogy, then during one of his more recent adventures.

Not only would killing McClane off had given us all a little closure, it would surely have spared us the threat of yet another entry in the franchise - and the indignity of Bruce Willis struggling his way through a sequel he obviously cares not a jot for. Regardless, it's entirely fitting that this franchise should refuse to die, stubbornly pressing on and on into its depressing dotage. Die Hard indeed.
