10 Movie Characters Who Should've Died (But Didn't)

2. Gage Creed - Pet Sematary (2019)

The Dark Knight Rises Christian Bale
Paramount Pictures

Little Gage Creed lucked out in this year's Pet Sematary remake/re-adaptation, surviving the majority of the film where, in King's novel, he was the one to get splattered all over the front of a speeding truck.

This time, big sister Ellie is the one to be resurrected in the infamous Pet Sematary, coming back not-quite-right to terrorise Mom, Dad and kindly neighbour Jud Crandall. But by robbing Gage Creed of his horrifying demise, the film loses part of what made the book so shocking, replacing baby Gage with a cookie-cutter horror villain.

This gives the film its big twist and allows Louis Creed to converse a little more with his dearly departed offspring, but it never works - not like the novel, and not even as well as the campy 1983 original. Sometimes dead really is better.
