10 Movie Cliffhangers That Were Ignored In The Sequel

4. Angelica Finds The Jack Sparrow Voodoo Doll - Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

The fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie concludes with a distrustful Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) marooning his ex-lover - and daughter of Blackbeard (Ian McShane) - Angelica (Penélope Cruz) on a desert island.

However, the film's post-credits scene cuts back to a stranded Angelica as, suddenly, a voodoo doll of Jack made by her father washes up, and she stares at it with a clear vengeful intent.

This blatantly set up Angelica's return in the fifth film, though perhaps due to the six-year gap between the two movies she was ultimately nowhere to be seen in Dead Men Tell No Tales. Cruz's husband Javier Bardem did, however, appear as villain Captain Armando Salazar.

Some fans have theorised that Angelica's voodoo doll may explain a few of Sparrow's more out-of-character moments throughout the fifth film, though it's a shame this nagging cliffhanger has canonically been ignored.

And with Depp unlikely to return for any future sequels, it's almost certainly never going to be resolved. Boo.
