10 Movie Deaths That Ruined Your Childhood

3. Mel Clark - Angels In The Outfield

OK, this one is definitely a little bit of a cheat. After all, Mel Clark doesn't technically die in Angels in the Outfield. What actually happens is so much weirder and actually more depressing.

So, little Joseph Gordon-Levitt has succeeded with the help of angels to get the Anaheim Angels to win the pennant (although his father has already turned him over to the state so that's really upsetting), and when the film should be in full on celebration mode, there's a strange little exchange between Roger (Gordon-Levitt) and Al the Boss Angel.

They're looking over at Mel and Al just casually mentions that Mel only has a few months to live. He tells a small child, "Yeah, I know he looks perfectly healthy but he actually has cancer that he doesn't know about and is going to die very soon." Which is like...WHAT? Why - why would you say that?

It's super dark and doesn't seem like the sort of thing you tell a kid.

And it's also just really sad because everybody likes Mel - he's finally getting his moment in the sun after a rapidly deteriorating professional baseball career and it's supremely hard to accept why he needs to be killed off in such a cavalier manner.
