9. The Norwegian Pilot's Warning - The Thing (1982)
John Carpenter's sci-fi masterpiece The Thing opens with the unforgettable sight of a Norwegian pilot arriving at the American Antarctic base, where he fires a gun and shouts at them in unsubtitled Norwegian before being shot dead himself.
However, anyone who actually speaks Norwegian will be aware that the pilot effectively explains the nature of The Thing from the get-go. He says:
"Get the hell away from that thing. That's not a dog, it's some sort of thing! It's imitating a dog, it isn't real! Get away you idiots!"
On one hand, the pilot didn't think his approach through very well, but on the other, we're ultimately left to assume he just witnessed the Norwegian research station get waylaid by The Thing, so you can't really blame him for losing his composure.
Sadly the language barrier meant that MacReady (Kurt Russell) and his team didn't actually realise they had a shape-shifting alien in their midst until half-way through the movie.
