10 Movie Directors Who F**king Doubled Down On Your Hate

8. Terence Malick's Obsession With Tall Grass Shows No Sign Of Stopping

Of the many directors known for imbuing a specific visual style into pretty much all of their features, few garner the sort of divisiveness of Terrence Malick; a filmmaker who will stop at nothing to ensure his movie contains a shot of his characters wading through some aesthetically pleasing tall grass.

Now, this is hardly the only key characteristic that Malick refuses to steer away from when bringing a new project to life, with his highly distinct and immersive angles when crafting a shot also being a key trait within his features. But despite it becoming something of a running joke just how often his actors wind up sitting amongst the flowing grass eating cereal or just sprinting through a field, Malick still finds a way to get some raised greenery into his creations.

In fact, Malick is so obsessed with cultivating a catalogue of visually stunning grassy roots that he was once sued for "forgetting" to make a documentary he'd signed on to create. The reason? He was too busy shooting the likes of Tree of Life, becoming immersed in the weeds, when he should've been planting seeds for what would eventually become Voyage of Time.
