10 Movie Directors Who Flipped Out At Critics

6. Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer & Jerry Bruckheimer Blame Critics For The Lone Ranger's Box Office Failure

Lone-RangerThe Criticism: The Lone Ranger is a bad movie, and Jerry Bruckheimer, Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer should feel bad. The Response: In a fairly candid trio of interviews - given that the movie already bombed in the US and they clearly didn't care about p*ssing people off - the guys lamented U.S. critics for "slitting the jugular" of the movie by pre-judging the flick based on production problems prior to filming. Some of the choice quotes include Depp saying, "I think the reviews were probably written when they heard that Gore and Jerry and I were going to do 'The Lone Ranger'", Bruckheimer remarking, "I think that they were reviewing the budget, not reviewing the movie", and finally Armie Hammer noting, "They've been gunning for our movie since it was shut down the first time. That's probably when most of the critics wrote their initial reviews." Of course, these comments totally ignore the fact that critics lamented the film's glacial pace, bloated run-time, uneven tone and phoned-in performance from Johnny Depp, but no, the three of them wouldn't dare address that at all now, would they?
