10 Movie Directors Who Flipped Out At Critics

5. Rob Schneider Takes Out Full-Page Ads In Variety To Insult Critic

The Criticism: Patrick Goldstein of the Los Angeles Times joked that Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo was overlooked at the Oscars because nobody had invented a category called, "Best Running Penis Joke Delivered by a Third-Rate Comic." The Response: Schneider took out full-page ads in Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, addressing Goldstein, remarking, "I decided to do some research to find out what awards you have won. I went online and found that you have won nothing. Absolutely nothing. No journalistic awards of any kind...Maybe you didn't win a Pulitzer Prize because they haven't invented a category for Best Third-Rate, Unfunny Pompous Reporter Who's Never Been Acknowledged by His Peers." Amusingly, Roger Ebert soon enough leapt in to defend Goldstein, declaring that Goldstein had won a litany of journalistic awards, and that though not a Pulitzer Prize winner, Ebert himself was. Ebert continued, "Speaking in my official capacity as a Pulitzer Prize winner, Mr. Schneider, your movie sucks." Brilliant.
