10. Eli Roth
Preferred Acting Style: Whatever Quentin Says Is Okay I've got no problem with a director taking on an occasional bit part for no other reason than they "just wanted to." That's fine, and some of us would probably even do the same, had we been in the same position and were given the chance. So although I was completely okay with Eli Roth making a brief cameo in movies like
Piranha 3D (who cares, right?), I draw the line at the director taking on a fully-fledged role as Sgt. Donowitz in
Inglourious Basterds. Don't get me wrong: Eli Roth doesn't ruin the role, but could another actor - a proper actor - have done better? Almost without a doubt. Thing is, Roth was cast in the role because his best friend and mentor Quentin Tarantino cast him, which is surprising given that Tarantino usually has a real knack for casting the perfect people (I mean - this movie gave us Christoph Waltz). Roth kind of pulls it off, but generally speaking he should probably limit his screentime. There's only so much we can take.
