10 Movie Douchebags You Can’t Help But Love

6. Walter Sobchak (John Goodman)

Movie: The Big Lebowski (1998) Why He€™s a Douche: Walter has severe anger management issues, which are exacerbated by an interior vulnerability that he€™s desperate to hide. He€™s highly opinionated, he€™ll pull a gun for literally nothing and he has no qualms with smashing in a car or two to prove a point (even if it is the wrong car). He€™s loud, aggressive and uncontrollable and if it weren€™t for Walter, The Dude would have solved the film€™s kidnapping plot within a fraction of the time. Why You Love Him: It€™s John Goodman; the guy could play Hitler and you€™d be able to find at least one thing to like about him. It€™s Walter€™s hidden vulnerability that makes him so interesting in The Big Lebowski; in his interactions with The Dude, you might perceive an almost childish tone to his responses, like he€™s defending himself after throwing a tantrum. And actually, he usually is. That€™s why he€™s so easy to love €“ he might be menacing in stature but inside he€™s small, afraid. It€™s hard not to develop an emotional attachment to character that underneath, you suspect just wants a big hug.
