6. Brave New World

You know how there are people of a certain age who like to bring up the fact that everyone relies too much on technology these days and no one knows how to communicate anymore and everyone spends their days consumed by their electronic devices and misses out on life?

Well, if you watch Brave New World, you may end up agreeing with them. It focuses on a society that is functionally controlled by the government through the use of technology as a means of distraction. Everyone spends so much time consuming cheap entertainment that they are easy to keep in line.

But that seems almost innocuous in comparison to the rigid class structure that is in place. Each class is bred for a different purpose, with the highest caste given an education that befits future thinkers and leaders, while the lowest class are subject to oxygen deprivation and chemical treatments that will leave them capable of only manual labor.

So...not exactly fun times at Ridgemont High. Although in all fairness, the citizens are kept up to their necks in drugs and other mind-numbing amusements, so they're not exactly in a position to complain, are they?
