10 Movie Endings That Get Worse The More You Think About Them

6. Superman Broke Earth - Superman IV: The Quest For Peace

Don't Worry Darling
Warner Bros.

Superman IV: The Quest for Peace's ending is one that's both bad in the literal, artistic sense and rather unnerving from a scientific perspective.

In the maligned superhero sequel's climax, the Man of Steel (Christopher Reeve) figures out that to defeat the villainous Nuclear Man (Mark Pillow), he must block out the sun from which he derives his powers.

And so, Superman straight-up goes over to the Moon and pushes it in front of the sun, causing an eclipse which wipes out Nuclear Man's powers and allows Supes to beat him.

The movie promptly, mercifully ends without making any mention of the fact that Superman just made things very difficult back home.

After all, suddenly shifting the Moon would've caused a major gravitational shift on Earth and likely resulted in massive tidal waves, which would in turn have caused countless lost lives.

Granted, you'd be a fool to expect a film as historically awful as Superman IV to deal with this in a satisfying manner, but all the same, Supes' last-ditch effort to take down Nuclear Man would've caused serious issues for humanity.
