10 Movie Endings The Audience Guessed Immediately
6. Saw 3D
Ever since Dr. Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes) left that grotty bathroom sans-foot at the end of the first Saw, fans had been waiting for him to make his glorious return to the franchise, with most predicting that he would end up being revealed as another of Jigsaw's (Tobin Bell) secret apprentices.
And that's...exactly what happened at the end of the seventh film, Saw 3D.
In fairness, Lionsgate announced ahead of Saw 3D's release that Cary Elwes would be returning for a small appearance as Gordon, but every fan worth their salt knew they wouldn't be bringing him back simply for a nothing cameo.
And so, the very end of the film drops the crowd-pleasing bombshell that Dr. Gordon was nursed back to health by Jigsaw after escaping the bathroom and became another apprentice-in-waiting.
His mission? To deal with the new Jigsaw, Detective Hoffman (Costas Mandylor), in the event that anything happened to Jigsaw's former wife Jill (Betsy Russell).
Hoffman kills Jill earlier in the movie, prompting Gordon to spring into action, kidnapping Hoffman and, in the film's final scene, leaving him to rot inside the very bathroom he was himself a prior prisoner.
As head-smackingly stupid as Saw 3D may have been, it was tough for fans not to grin at the shameless fan service of Gordon's return, no matter that the character logic didn't quite track convincingly.
Fans knew it was coming, and there was zero disappointment when the movie thoroughly embraced its trashiness by delivering exactly what fans both wanted and expected.
