10 Movie Endings The Audience Guessed Immediately
7. The Dark Knight Rises
There were admittedly only so many ways Christopher Nolan could end The Dark Knight Rises - namely, killing off Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) or having him retire.
Even so, with the film's synopsis confirming the focus on a weathered, depressed Bruce who no longer wants to be a superhero, working opposite a young, idealistic cop, John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), who wants to rid Gotham of crime, it wasn't terribly surprising to see where Nolan took things.
Though Nolan tried to make us think otherwise for a hot minute, there was virtually no chance of him ever killing Batman on-screen for real.
And while you might not have expected Bruce to end the movie supping coffee in a Florence cafe with Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway), the broader outline of him passing the Batman mantle onto a younger, better-equipped soul wasn't surprising in the slightest.
Fans remain relatively divided on the movie's ending, especially whether or not Batman should've actually died, and in the very least the legitimate demise of the Caped Crusader would've been a genuinely shocking, definitive capper on Nolan's saga.
