10 Movie Facts You Probably Already Knew Deep Down
1. Jane Russell Wasn't Supposed To Fall In The Pool - Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' unforgettable "Ain't There Anyone Here for Love?" sequence culminates in Dorothy Shaw (Jane Russell) getting knocked into a swimming pool by one of the scantily clad male performers who dives past her.
But as it turns out, this was actually a total accident - the performer genuinely clipped Russell with his knee as he leaped over her, sending her unexpectedly tumbling into the drink.
Yet director Howard Hawks liked the "mistake" enough that he decided to keep it in the movie regardless, opting to end the sequence with a soaking wet Russell getting hoisted out of the pool by the men and lifted up on their shoulders.
And honestly, it's not that surprising at all - Russell's fall into the pool feels spontaneous, so there's a good chance you figured this one out for yourself.
What you probably didn't know, however, is that the performer responsible for clipping Russell - bodybuilder Ed Fury - was fired from the production because he felt that his contribution to the scene earned him a co-choreography credit. The filmmakers evidently disagreed.
