10 Movie Fan Theories The Creators Completely Rejected
1. Toy Story
The Theory: Much like the aforementioned Grease theory, this one takes an enjoyable, family-friendly property and gives it a depressingly bleak spin.
Toy Story is one of the greatest animated movies ever made, and its popularity has only created more and more questions about the whereabouts of Andy's dad.
While you're watching the movie, it's easy to overlook the fact that he's never mentioned or seen, but when you stop and think about it, there's definitely a backstory there that's waiting to be filled in.
Fortunately, this mystery story was told earlier this year by Mike Mozart, a toy consultant who worked on the original Toy Story. He sat down with SuperCarlinBrothers for a chat, revealing that Andy’s father was also named Andy, and Andy Sr. was the original owner of the Woody doll (it's his name on the boot).
Unfortunately, around 1959, Andy Sr. contracted polio and a lot of his toys were destroyed for his own safety - all except for Woody, Mr. Potato Head and Slinky Dog.
Luckily, Andy Sr. recovered and would later marry, and he and his wife soon had a child, Andy Jr. - the Andy featured in the Toy Story movies.
But his recovery was short-lived, and he later contracted Post-Polio Syndrome. Soon after, Andy Sr. - knowing he was dying - gave Andy Jr. a key and told him to go bring down a chest from the attic. Andy got the chest, but when he returned to his father... he was dead.
After the funeral, Andy opened the chest and found Woody, Slinky, and Mr. Potato Head, who woke from their slumber, saw young Andy and believed he was the kid they grew up with all those years ago.
That's quite an emotional, tragic, well-fleshed-out backstory! Only, it's not real.
The Rejection: It appears we'll never know the truth behind the mystery of Andy's father.
Soon after this backstory began doing the rounds and fans had picked it up, adding their own tiny details to flesh things out even more, Andrew Stanton - who worked on the original Toy Story - spoke out on Twitter.
Ah well. It was fun while it lasted.
